![]() Meridian officials have planned a noon ribbon-cutting on Aug. The rest came from a township parks millage approved by Meridian voters in August 2014. Maisner said $17,680 of it was covered by a grant provided by Greenfields Outdoor Fitness Inc., the Anaheim, California, company that built the equipment. Users must increase reps to boost fitness. To make the equipment durable enough to withstand the most powerful downpours and devastating blizzards, the weights on the machines can’t be adjusted. The machines’ parts aren’t entirely movable, she added. Thus the work stations not only encourage fitness, but social interaction as well, Maisner said. Several pieces can accommodate more than one person. The workout stations include a vertical press, a chest press, a rowing machine, a leg press, a back and arms machine, and a lower-body combination device. “This equipment is similar to what you would find in a fitness center,” Maisner said, adding that she thinks it's a first for the state. These are not the sit-up benches, pull-up bars and other static exercise stations seen in parks during the 1970s, Maisner said. “We had barely removed the wrappers on the new equipment before people were already using it,” said LouAnn Maisner, the director of Meridian Township Parks and Recreation Department. The two workout pods, each containing six pieces of equipment, have been a hit from the very start. Twelve pieces of fitness equipment, placed in the park last month, now give visitors a chance to work the upper and lower body, as well as the cardiovascular system. ![]() – Getting in a little exercise at Wonch Park now involves more than an enjoyable stroll in a large circle. ![]()
